The last (and often most desired) upgrade when it comes to RVs is that big step up to the diesel pusher luxury coach.

It’s assumed by now that you have mastered life behind the wheel of a front mounted, gas engine, Class A motorhome.  These tips for first time motorhome drivers may be old hat for you.  Still, there are a few things about driving a diesel pusher that you may not realize.

You’re entering a whole new world when you purchase a diesel pusher.  There are many different quirks and idiosyncrasies with these deluxe and very complicated RVs.

I could write a book about what the owner’s manual doesn’t tell you when it comes to diesel pusher RVs.

For example, there are new parts to get accustomed to like air brakes and air ride suspension.

Diesel pushers also have 2 fuel fillers — one on each side.  Just don’t go thinking you can fuel from both sides at the same time like the big trucks do, because you’d be spilling more fuel on the ground than you’d be putting in the tank!

Hopefully, during your delivery walk-through, your RV dealer will point out these issues (and more) to you.  Make sure you take along a notebook and pen.  The notes you take will be a lifesaver down the road.
