Every fall, the annual battle starts. Army vs. Navy, Vikings vs. Packers, even Duluth Central High School vs. Duluth Denfeld High School.
Whatever your favorite team, now is the time to fire up the RV and head to the stadium parking lot.
RVs and motorhomes are great for tailgating. You can load up a crowd and have your own small party before a concert, sporting event, parade, or most any other outdoor event you can think of!
Highway 61, headed north from Duluth Minnesota to Thunder Bay over the Canadian border, immortalized in Bob Dylan’s song.
He chose this stretch of road for good reason, it represents the best of Minnesota in so many ways. The North Shore drive along Lake Superior is the most scenic stretch of road in Minnesota and possibly the entire Midwest.
What's a staycation, you ask?
According to the Urban Dictionary, a staycation is...
A vacation that is spent at one's home enjoying all that home and one's home environs have to offer. A vacation spent close to home.
So, how does this apply to RVers?
Well, if the winter cover is still on your RV -- and your summer plans went down the drain the moment gas headed over the $4 a gallon mark -- then you're probably wondering if there's any point in getting the RV ready for summer use this year. The good news is... with a little imagination, you can still make plenty of use of your favorite summer pastime: RVing!
Yep, there's no time like the present to turn your RV summer vacation into a staycation.
In fact, aside from the high price of gas, there are plenty of reasons to stay close to home and consider alternative travel plans.
Here are some fun ideas for your next RV staycation...
We left Flagstaff, Arizona on April 26th, headed to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and our jobs for the summer.
The 225-mile or so drive is one of the most scenic I have ever travelled.
We took Highway 89 north out of Flagstaff, passing by the entrance to Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monument. The road took us through the Apache Indian Reservation.
I know I have been out of touch with the world for a while. Jim and I arrived at the Grand Canyon back on April 26th. My life has been a blur since then, first with training for my new job, then with finding our way around our new “home”, on top of not having Internet service for about 3 weeks.
The last time I wrote, I told you all about our RV trip from Dalhart, Texas to Grants, New Mexico. So, it is about time to catch up.
Here are highlights from our time spent in Flagstaff, Arizona -- en route to the Grand Canyon...
On Wednesday we were on the road early, leaving Dalhart, Texas around 8:30 a.m.
On the western edge of town, we passed by what must have the biggest cow pen in the world, at least it was the biggest one I have ever seen.
There were cows as far as we could see -- thousands of them. I have since found out that this was a feed lot, where the cows are held to be fed. I have never seen anything like this before. It was too foggy to get a good picture.
We saw lots more interesting things along the way from Texas to New Mexico...
We left Wichita, Kansas yesterday morning headed for our summer job at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We headed out US 54 West, and stayed on that road all day.
I don’t know what exactly I expected Kansas to be like, I found that there was quite a bit about this state that I didn’t know.
