April 2008 Archives
On Wednesday we were on the road early, leaving Dalhart, Texas around 8:30 a.m.
On the western edge of town, we passed by what must have the biggest cow pen in the world, at least it was the biggest one I have ever seen.
There were cows as far as we could see -- thousands of them. I have since found out that this was a feed lot, where the cows are held to be fed. I have never seen anything like this before. It was too foggy to get a good picture.
We saw lots more interesting things along the way from Texas to New Mexico...
We left Wichita, Kansas yesterday morning headed for our summer job at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. We headed out US 54 West, and stayed on that road all day.
I don’t know what exactly I expected Kansas to be like, I found that there was quite a bit about this state that I didn’t know.
After a mad dash across the country from Atlanta, Georgia to Wichita, Kansas in 2 days, we stopped for a week at USI RV Park.
After getting the trailer ready and hooked up, the next most important thing for us is to make sure WE are ready to go. That includes stocking certain items inside the cab of the truck within easy reach of the passenger seat.
Here's what we do...
Whether you are going to a new job and planning to stay for months, or just going on a weekend trip in your RV, you should have a checklist of things that need to be done ibefore you leave. Not only will a list prevent you from forgetting something, but it will also assure that you get from one place to the other safely.
This list can be written down and taped inside a cabinet door, or tucked away in your brain, but either way "The List" is essential.
Cheaha State Park in east central Alabama is one of my all time favorite parks. It is where Jim and I first started camping together when we had our pop-up camper.
The park is located 12 miles south of Anniston off of I-20 in northeast Alabama.
If you're planning a trip to Unicoi State Park in Helen, Georgia, better get your reservations early. The campground fills up fast, with the full hook-up spots going first every weekend.
During the summer months, even the tent sites are completely booked well in advance. So, what makes Unicoi such a sought after campground?
